Ex-addicts are turning lives around: Treatment called key to staying out of jail

Through DORA, she'll dissect her reasons for relapse and create a plan to not fall again.

And that's the beauty of DORA, which hasn't dropped a client yet.

A relapse doesn't mean a trip back to jail but a "tune-up" chat with Chamberlain and a recommitment to do better.

"Taxpayers are making an investment in you that will hopefully end this," Chamberlain tells them. "We're going to help you get over an addiction so the taxpayers don't have to worry about you committing crimes again."

And for Palmer, that's a big responsibility.

"When somebody gives you a loan, you work to pay it back," she said. "I'm working to become a better citizen. I want to say those are little things, but they are big things. Not being a drug addict is a big thing."
