2005
April The mayor unveils his new plans for a $4 million makeover of Pioneer Park.
July City Council allocates $600,000 for Pioneer Park renovations; the city also receives a $500,000 federal grant for the park upgrades.
July 9 Anderson uses $485 in taxpayer money to pick up a "bar tab" private club cover charges, food and beverages at Grand America, reported in September by the Deseret Morning News.
August Anderson proposes the creation of Utah's first domestic-partner registry, which would allow gay couples to sign up with the city, giving their partnership legal recognition, if not the full benefits of marriage.
Aug. 22 Anderson speaks at a rally protesting President Bush's visit to Salt Lake City to address the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Sept. 21 Mayor signs an order giving medical insurance benefits to unmarried partners of city employees and their children.
October Duncan Moench is hired as Anderson's eighth media spokesman.
2006
Jan. 17 Patrick Thronson becomes the mayor's ninth and final media spokesman.
April 29 Anderson calls for "no more Iraq war" at a rally at the City-County Building.
May 12 Salt Lake City's insurance benefits plan for adult designees of city workers who live in the same household but are not married to the employee passes a legal challenge.
July 28 Anderson decides against running for a third term as mayor.
Aug. 30 Anderson speaks during a rally for peace and justice at Washington Square to protest President Bush's visit to Salt Lake City.
Nov. 14 City Council unanimously approves Anderson's smoking ban in city parks, trails, public spaces and mass gatherings.
2007
May 4 Anderson debates conservative radio talk-show host Sean Hannity at the University of Utah's Kingsbury Hall.
June 12 Anderson gets into an altercation with developer Dell Loy Hansen in the hall outside the City Council chambers after the mayor said previous Redevelopment Agency dealings with Hansen's company left a sour taste in his mouth.
Nov. 3 Mayor speaks out against a $192 million public-safety bond, saying the price tag is too high.
Nov. 6 Proposition 1 fails by less than 300 votes, leading some to blame Anderson's last-minute opposition for dooming the public safety bond.
Dec. 6 Anderson attends his final City Council meeting as mayor.
