The Simpsons (7 p.m., Ch. 13): Springfield becomes the site of the first-in-the-nation presidential primary and Ralph Wiggum becomes the leading candidate. (Really.)
The Amazing Race (7:30 p.m., Ch. 2): A volatile relationship implodes as the racers travel to Japan.
King of the Hill (7:30 p.m., Ch. 13): Hank seeks help from a spiritualist to control Ladybird's fear of loud noises.
Desperate Housewives (8 p.m., Ch. 4): Who survived the tornado? (This is the last episode completed before the writers' strike stopped production.)
American Gladiators (8 p.m., Ch. 5): NBC scrapes the bottom of the barrel and comes up with a rehash of the 1989-97 syndicated series. The network didn't provide any footage to critics, which means it didn't want us to see it.
Cold Case (8:30 p.m., Ch. 2): The team searches for a serial bomber.
Shark (9:30 p.m., Ch. 2): Sebastian's longtime friend and former partner is murdered
The Wire (10 p.m., HBO): One of TV's best series returns for its final season. Both the police department and the local newspaper staff are going through cutbacks.
