At the end of each season, coaches throughout the state and prep sports writers for the Deseret Morning News select all-state teams for the major high school sports.
The newspaper's writers in Utah County also select all-valley teams. Both the all-state and all-valley teams in football, girls soccer and volleyball have already been published.
On their own, however, the coaches in Region 4 and Region 7 usually get together and vote on players they think had the best region seasons which comprise the all-region teams. Following the fall seasons, Region 4's coaches picked all-region teams in football, volleyball and girls soccer. The only Region 7 team submitted so far is for girls soccer.
