Clinton drew large, enthusiastic crowds throughout the day. More than 1,000 cheering backers jammed the River Center in Dubuque to hear her standard stump speech, with Strickland at her side. Strickland said that he decided to endorse Clinton because she is the Democrat most likely to win the White House in November.

Clinton argued that she can win in November, pointing to her record as first lady and in the Senate.

"When the campaigning is over, how do you make the decision?" Clinton asked. "I believe the best way to make that decision is to look at the evidence. If you want to know what I'll do as president, the best evidence is what I've done."

Clinton noted her backing from fellow senators and governors as evidence that politicians believe she's best able to win.

"I have people across this country who have been elected in tough states for Democrats," said Clinton. "They know how to win and they believe that I am the best person to win for Democrats."

Much of Clinton's claim of experience lies in her eight years as first lady, but she rejects the argument that she wants voters to turn back the clock.

"It's not like I'm talking about ancient history. I'm not talking about the 15th Century," Clinton said. "We were on the right track and then it was all squandered."

Clinton was taking the high road during the final weekend of Iowa campaigning, making the case for her candidacy without referring to her rivals.

"On Jan. 20, 2009, someone will be sworn in at high noon to be president," said Clinton. "We know some of the challenges that will await the next president. No matter how much we think we know today, we can't possibly predict everything that will happen."
