Giricek tops Jazz agenda today

The initial discussions on how the Utah Jazz will handle the Gordan Giricek situation will take place today before the team practices at its Zion's Bank Basketball Center at 4 p.m.

General manager Kevin O'Connor said Monday he wasn't sure if any final decision will be made regarding Giricek, who was sent home from the Jazz's eastern road trip last week by coach Jerry Sloan after they had words on the bench. Sloan first sent the fourth-year Jazzman to the locker room in Charlotte last Wednesday. After that game, Giricek was sent home with two games remaining for the team on its four-game road trip.

"We're going to talk with the coaches and make some decisions during the day (today) on what we're going to do," O'Connor said, adding, "Don't know," on whether a definitive course will be reached today.

"I'm trying to let everybody have a day or two off," O'Connor added.

Today's practice will perhaps determine whether Mehmet Okur can return to active duty. He has been out since injuring a shoulder in the Dec. 11 Portland home game. He has missed seven games but has been considered day-to-day.

O'Connor also said he thought Matt Harpring's further medical testing for his gastrointestinal distress was scheduled for some time after Christmas.

The Jazz play the Dallas Mavericks Wednesday night in EnergySolutions Arena, are at the Los Angeles Lakers Friday and back home again for games Saturday with Boston and Monday with Portland to finish out 2007.
