This year, instead of spending spring break seeking the perfect tan, college students are being invited to help build and maintain trails in America's national parks and forests.
Beginning in March, the American Hiking Society is offering weeklong volunteer vacations geared toward college students. No previous trail work or seasoned hiking experience is required.
Students who sign up before Feb. 29 will receive a 10 percent discount. College credit may be available but must be arranged with the student's school prior to the trip. A schedule of trips is at www.americanhiking.org/events/vv/index.html
