BYU receiver Austin Collie named MVP, snagging six passes for 107 yards and a TD and adding three kick returns for 88 total yards.
PLAY OF THE GAME
It will long be remembered as the defining and clinching moment of the Cougars' 2007 Las Vegas Bowl victory Eathyn Manumaleuna getting the block on UCLA kicker Kai Forbath's would-be winning field goal from 28 yards out on the game's final play.
KEY CALL
BYU's decision to run the ball rather than run out the clock at the end of the first half proved to be both ill-advised and costly. Harvey Unga's fumble with 12 seconds remaining gave the Bruins the ball at the 4-yard line and UCLA scored two plays later to cut the Bruins' halftime deficit to 17-13.
QUOTABLE
"It was ugly, but I'll take it. That was close. ... We needed to make one more play and our will, our heart, our desire won the game." Bryan Kehl, BYU linebacker
UP NEXT
The Cougars will begin the 2008 season as two-time defending conference champions. BYU will return most of its starters on offense, losing center Sete Aulai and receiver Matt Allen. Personnel losses on the defensive side, though, will be heavy. Among the players graduating will be linebackers Bryan Kehl and Kelly Poppinga, and defensive backs Ben Criddle, Kayle Buchanan and Corby Hodgkiss.
