CEDAR CITY Ryan Toolson scored a career-high 35 points to lead Utah Valley to a come-from-behind, double-overtime, 91-88 win over Southern Utah on Saturday night. "This was a wonderful win," said UVSC coach Dick Hunsaker. "I'm very happy for our players. They never dropped their heads even during tough times"
After trailing 42-33 at the half and by as much as 11 in the second half, Utah Valley chipped away at the SUU lead. Jordan Brady, who scored 15 for the Wolverines, brought them within one at 66-65 with a driving dunk with 10 seconds remaining. After SUU's Brett Quinney hit a pair of foul shots with 7 seconds remaining, Toolson nailed a 3-pointer with a man in his face to send the game to overtime.
With 35 second remaining in the OT period and SUU up 79-75, Utah Valley got a layup from Brady. A free-throw game the T-birds a three-point lead, but Toolson hit another clutch 3-pointer to tie the game at 80 and send it to double overtime.
After trading baskets, Utah Valley had the ball with under one minute remaining when Toolson hit a 30-foot 3-pointer to give the Wolverines a 91-88 lead that SUU couldn't dent in its final two possessions.
The win snapped UVSC's (4-7) five-game losing skid. SUU fell to 4-8 with the loss.
