If you want to go a step higher, consider binoculars, spotting scope, handheld GPS device, two-way radios and big game DVDs and videos.

There are hundreds of items in a good tackle shop for the fisherman. Forget the lures and twin-tail grubs. There's fishing line, tippet, treble hooks, multitool, electronic scale, tackle boxes and fishing hat.

Other ideas include landing net, fillet knife, stringer, rod holder, fishing vest and fishing books, DVDs and videos.

And if you choose to step up a little higher, there are fly rods, underwater cameras, float tubes with motors, custom reels, insulated waders and boots to match and a full range of fish finders.

Often the search for a gift for the sportsman doesn't come down to what to buy, but more when to stop buying. And, as the survey confirms, buying something for the hunter or fisherman is, in most cases, very much appreciated.
