Audit targets Mona policies

PROVO — City leaders in Mona are working to overhaul the way they do business after a state audit found government policies lacking.

Auditors found the city failed to solicit bids and document transactions for government projects, awarded work to businesses owned by city leaders, city employees or their relatives and didn't disclose those relationships.

Auditors say that's a violation of the state Municipal Officers' and Employees' Ethics Act.

City director of finance Everd Squire says Mona officials didn't do anything wrong. He says the Mona is so small, the council is limited in its choices. Squire says the city is working to address audit concerns.
