Charles Krauthammer perfectly states my views about Mike Huckabee and his bigoted campaign in Iowa with his column "Huckabee subtly connives" (Dec. 9).
Bigoted? Of course! His main competitor has been Romney, a Mormon. If Huckabee is not bigoted, all he has to do is issue an emphatic statement urging voters, including evangelicals, not to reject a candidate primarily based on his religion.
Instead, when asked directly if he believes Mormonism is a "cult," he straddles the issue and stands by, silently unresponsive about the defense Romney has had to offer for his beliefs.
As Krauthammer points out, if Huckabee were running against Joe Lieberman, a Jew, his proclaiming himself as a "Christian leader" would provoke an outrage. Not so when you're running against a Mormon. They don't deserve the same respect.
