Kennecott Land named three development groups this week the winners of the company's second annual Sustainability Awards.
Rainey Homes, Nolte Engineering and ValleyCrest Landscape Development were chosen from a group of 10 builders and 19 contractors working for Kennecott Land. The company established the awards to promote sustainable practices for the builders and contractors that work in the Daybreak community in South Jordan.
Each applicant was judged on their participation in sustainable practices and education of employees in sustainable practices on and off site.
Rainey Homes received the 2007 Sustainable Home Builder award for their use of environmental-friendly practices and following Energy Star standards. Rainey Homes also uses water pump timers to conserve electricity, natural gas and water.
Nolte Engineering received the 2007 Sustainable Contractor award for recycling and using recycled building materials, following Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design standards and controlling pollution through the use of hybrid vehicles and trash disposal.
ValleyCrest Landscape Development also received a 2007 Sustainable Contractor award for participating in LEED projects and changing their business practices to reduce energy use.
Kennecott Land also gave Liberty Homes a 2007 Customer Service award. Hearthside Homes received an award for excellence in safety.
