I have read a couple of letters to the editor decrying the booing of Derek Fisher at the last Jazz home game against the Lakers. I would like to set the record straight as to why some of us fans have negative feelings toward this player.
It is sad the situation his daughter has, and I hope she will be able to go forward and live a rich and full life. I feel Fisher used his daughter's situation to manipulate Larry Miller and the Jazz organization into releasing him from his contract under the guise of wanting to get the best care for his daughter. Coincidentally that happened to be in L.A. (a one-hour flight from Salt Lake City) and then he immediately signs a contract with the Lakers to return as a team player.
I and many other fans feel it was disingenuous of him to do that. He obviously didn't care about the Jazz organization or the fans. His daughter could have easily gotten the same care in L.A. while he continued to fulfill his contract obligations to the Jazz and its fans. So get off the crying about booing of Derek Fisher. He deserved it.
