CBS adjusts to writers' strike

A few things old, a few things new and a tacky summer series moved to the regular season — it's what CBS has to do because of the ongoing writers' strike.

"Big Brother" has done nicely for the network over the past few summers, which doesn't speak well of either CBS or its viewers. And it doesn't require anyone from the Writers Guild of America behind the scenes, so it returns on Tuesday, Feb. 12, at 7 p.m., with additional episodes on Wednesday, Feb. 13, at 8 p.m. and Sunday, Feb. 17, at 7 p.m. (It will air twice-weekly on Wednesdays and Sundays.)

Most of the rest of what's "new" on CBS in early 2008 is really "old."

• The game show "The Power of 10," which was a hit for the network last summer, returns on Wednesday, Jan. 2, at 7 p.m. Host Drew Carey will do double duty, keeping his day job as host of "The Price Is Right."

• The Julia Louis-Dreyfus sitcom "The New Adventures of Old Christine" returns for its third season on Monday, Jan. 28, at 8:30 p.m.

• A new season of "Survivor" begins Thursday, Feb. 7, at 7 p.m.

• The post-apocalyptic drama "Jericho" — canceled by the network and saved by a fan campaign — returns with an seven-episode second season that begins Tuesday, Feb. 12, at 9 p.m.

• The only really new show on CBS's winter schedule is "The Captain," a sitcom about a "wildly eclectic group of people whose lives are connected through the place they all call home, a fabled Hollywood apartment building, El Capitan." It premieres Monday, Jan. 28, at 7:30 p.m.

The cast includes Chris Klein, Jeffrey Tambor, Fran Kranz, Al Madrigal, Valerie Azlynn and Joanna Garcia and Raquel Welch — who's still looking good at the age of 67. It's from writers/producers whose credits include "Meet the Parents" and "Friends."

Elsewhere on CBS:

• The three-part miniseries "Comanche Moon" (a prequel to "Lonesome Dove") will air Sunday, Jan. 13, Tuesday, Jan. 15 and Wednesday, Jan. 16, from 8-10 p.m. each night.

• The network is planning to air repeats of "Cold Case" and "Shark" on Sundays; "How I Met Your Mother," "Two and a Half Men" and "CSI: Miami" on Mondays; "NCIS" on Tuesdays; "Criminal Minds" and "CSI: NY" on Wednesdays; "CSI" and "Without a Trace" on Thursdays; "Ghost Whisperer, "Moonlight" and "Numb3rs" on Fridays.
