LA VERKIN, Washington County — A 64-year-old woman was killed while crossing a dark street when she was hit by a car.

The Utah Highway Patrol said the accident happened at 6:45 a.m. Tuesday on state Route 9. The woman was crossing the street in the dark, troopers said.

"It's not a lighted area, the pedestrian was in dark clothes and the driver just didn't see her," UHP Trooper Cameron Roden said.

The woman, whose name is not being released pending notification of family, was taken to a St. George hospital where she died. No citation was issued to the driver of the car that hit her, troopers said.
