Glimpse magazine for study abroad
"We publish articles written by students living abroad to get at real life, rather than tourist attractions or news stories," said editor-in-chief Kerala Goodkin, who co-founded the magazine five years ago with a friend, Nick Fitzhugh. "We're trying to provide a cultural context to current events in the world."
The quarterly magazine's motto is "Real Life Abroad." It is published by an independent foundation, but is largely supported by the National Geographic Society. Its editorial offices are located in the society's Washington headquarters.
Glimpse prints about 10,000 copies per issue, with most copies distributed through study-abroad offices, but it's also available on newsstands and by paid subscription $17.95 for a year.
The magazine also offers a directory of resources for travel, volunteer and study abroad opportunities in every issue. The current issue includes Bridge Linguatec www.Bridge-Linguatec.com which can direct you to programs where you can learn a language, teach English or volunteer; Global Experiences www.globalexperiences.com - which customizes internships in various fields around the world; Semester at Sea www.semesteratsea.com where you travel the world in a ship; and Spanish Abroad www.spanishabroad.com where you'll find Spanish-language immersion programs throughout Latin America and Spain.
