Former Salt Lake City mayoral candidate Dave Buhler has been recommended to act as interim commissioner for the Utah System of Higher Education.
Buhler's name will be presented to the 18-member Board of Regents for approval during its Dec. 14 meeting. It is anticipated that he will assume the position Jan. 1, when Commissioner Rich Kendell will retire.
Since 2000, Buhler has worked as USHE's associate commissioner for public affairs, handling media and government relations and policy issues.
"Dave has the experience and skills needed to navigate the system through the legislative session and other significant issues and events," said Board of Regents Chairman Jed Pitcher. "The board is confident in Dave's leadership abilities and knows that he will maintain the momentum and progress that has been accomplished under Commissioner Kendell."
