Utah Jazz, Sloan agree on one-year contract extension

The Utah Jazz on Monday extended the contract of longtime head coach Jerry Sloan, said general manager Kevin O'Connor prior to Utah's game against Miami.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, but the one-year extension apparently would make Sloan one of the NBA's five highest-paid coaches.

Sloan's current contract would have expired after this season.

"Jerry has led the Jazz franchise for the past 20 years, and I wouldn't want it any other way," Jazz owner Larry H. Miller said in a statement released by the team.

Sloan and has been tenured with the same team longer than any other coach or general manager in America's four major professional sports leagues.

Timing of the signing, O'Connor said, was merely a matter of completing paperwork.
