OREM Police are looking for a young boy with a gun but don't believe he ever posed a threat to a school Friday morning.
Police received information from a Summit High School student that a seventh-grade boy attending the Summit High satellite program at Orem Junior High had a gun, said Orem Police Lt. Doug Edwards.
The person also told police that the boy had stolen the .25-caliber automatic handgun from his grandfather several days before and had brought the gun to school the previous day.
School officials at Orem Junior High locked all the outer school doors, and Summit High satellite teachers went to talk with students as they walked off the bus, Edwards said.
However, when the boy and his friends saw the teachers, they ran off.
Edwards said police learned the boys had planned to run away and put their plan into effect earlier once they saw the officials.
Police are still looking for the boys but assured the public that no gun was actually seen at school, nor were any threats made.
