Wet roads may have played a big part in a fatal head-on collision between a pickup and a car on state Route 198 just outside of Payson city limits at about 8:30 p.m. Friday, police said.
The male driver of the car, a 24-year old Provo resident, was pronounced dead at the scene, and the male passenger was reported to be in critical condition, said UHP spokeswoman Cori Start.
The passenger was transported to Utah Valley Regional Medical Center by Life Flight, Start said.
Officials were not sure who swerved into the other's lane but said they are looking at adverse weather conditions as a factor.
Police immediately closed down lanes in both directions; lanes were still closed at 10 p.m.
