Imagine this scenario: Austin Collie makes the 49-yard catch, but BYU doesn't go on to win the game. Collie makes his infamous remark but concludes, "Unfortunately, we didn't win the game." Would everybody be in an uproar? I doubt it.
Maybe I missed something, but I've never once heard Collie say that the Lord helped BYU win the game, he only indicated that the Lord helped him make that catch, and there's nothing wrong with that.
How many times do we see Christian college and NFL players cross themselves after a big catch or kneel down in the end zone for a moment of prayer? I don't hear anybody making a big fuss over that. What they do vs. what Collie said is no different.
As for the Deseret Morning News' Mike Sorensen's comment that BYU would win 100-0 over Utah every year if the Lord wanted BYU to win? BYU wouldn't win 100-0 because BYU coach Bronco Mendenhall has the class not to run up the score unlike a certain coach up north.
