I have recently become aware that Blue Boutique is moving to a new location at 2100 S. 1400 East because of the pending reconstruction in Sugar House. As a 14-year resident of this wonderful neighborhood, I am appalled and shocked. Apparently they are abiding by the "letter of the law," but it's unbelievable that such a business would be allowed to be located a block from Highland High School and across the street from Sugarhouse Park.
Although the "letter of the law" might not call it a sexually oriented business, that's exactly what it is. The scantily clad mannequins in the windows, along with the graphic nature of the product line, certainly doesn't belong in such a location. It's simply a front for the continuing proliferation of pornography.
I would ask the City Council to review this matter and establish guidelines that would prevent this type of business from being located so close to parkgoers and our students.
