From Deseret News archives:
BYU accounting programs ranked second in nation
We are delighted for the recognition of our peers concerning the quality of the program we have, said Kevin Stocks, director of the School of Accountancy. To be ranked this highly for so long is a pretty unique accomplishment.
In the ranking survey, accounting professors and accounting department heads around the nation were asked to name programs that turn out students capable of gaining partner status in the future.
Accounting faculty members often are influential in shaping the perceptions and career decisions of students, states the report. This survey seeks to measure the perceptions that faculty bring to that advisory role.
The 2007 top undergraduate accounting programs are:
1. University of Texas
2. BYU (tie)
2. University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (tie)
4. University of Notre Dame
5. University of Southern California
The top master level programs are:
1. University of Texas
2. BYU
3. University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign
4. University of Southern California
5. University of Notre Dame
Stocks attributes BYUs rankings in this survey to faculty and student visibility through competitions and external awards.
BYU prepares students for success throughout their career, rather than simply preparing them for entry into the profession, Stocks said. This ranking recognizes the quality of the program, our students and our faculty.
