Just set the program on one of eight meat choices and the desired level of "doneness," then the main unit lets you know — from as far away as 300 feet — when the food reaches a perfect temperature. It can speak in five languages.

Seeing is believing

Lots of digital photo frames can handle slideshows, but Westinghouse Digital Photo Frames ($119 to $399, www.westinghousedigital.com) offer something called MosaicView technology, meaning, in plain language, it can show multiple photos at the same time, in addition to single-picture or slideshow viewing.

Folks who want their photo frames to do a little more than the usual might consider Tao Digital Clock Viewers ($99.99, www.taoelectronics.com). They can display digital pictures, holding up to 50 images, but their 3.5-inch LCD screen also can be switched to show an alarm clock. They're available in three styles.

Many proud photographers wanting to show their digital images to others would need to lug along their desktop computer. But WalletPix ($29.99, www.walletpix.com) from IdeaVillage can alleviate that problem. The credit card-sized device can pack more than 50 photos. The company suggests loading devices up with photos to send as gifts to friends and family. WalletPix needs no special software, allowing a computer interface to move the photos from Windows computers to WalletPix devices. It comes with one-at-a-time or slideshow viewing options.

Brookstone's Men's Digital Photo Wallet ($59, www.brookstone.com) is similar. It features a removable 1.4-inch screen that fits inside the wallet, and the device can store and display up to 55 digital images. The rechargeable screen never needs batteries.
