'Elevated' plates available

The new Utah "Life Elevated" license plate was made available to the public for the first time Monday at state Division of Motor Vehicles offices.

The plate features a skier, mountains, a panel of petroglyphs and the logo "Life Elevated." It replaces the old "Ski Utah" plates that were first distributed in 1985.

An updated version of the Utah plate that shows Delicate Arch, in Arches National Park, also was made available Monday.

John Clark, a Deseret Morning News graphic artist, designed the new "Life Elevated" plate. "I have been waiting for this opportunity for a long time," Clark said in a statement.

During the most recent state legislative session, Clark and other members of the Utah chapter of the Automobile License Plate Collectors Association received approval for the plates to be distributed. Utah license plates have not been changed since 1992, when the Delicate Arch Centennial plate was released.

Leigh von der Esch, managing director of the Utah Office of Tourism, said the inclusion of the brand "Life Elevated" on the new license plate would help promote tourism in Utah, and also the "reach" of the new state logo.

Utahns who are registering a new or recently purchased car can request the new license plate at state DMV offices. To view the new plate, log on to dmv.utah.gov/licensestandardissue.html.
