Online tax filing continues to grow in popularity.

The Internal Revenue Service received almost 80 million tax returns through their e-File program last year, increasing their numbers of Internet filers for the eighth straight year. Last year, approximately 73 million returns were filed online.

In Utah, about 61 percent of the returns were filed through e-File. That is above the national average, which is around 57 percent.

Last year, the national numbers increased about 9 percent, which is actually a lower increase than previous years. Since 2001, the number of returns filed electronically has almost doubled.
