Speedskater Pekka Koskela of Finland set the world record for 1,000 meters Saturday, beating the previous mark by 0.03 seconds.
Koskela skated 1 minute and 7 seconds to break the record held by Shani Davis of the United States.
Davis had set his record at the Utah Olympic Oval on Nov. 20, 2005, at 1 minute 7:03 seconds.
Davis, in a final pairing Saturday, tried to reclaim the record but finished at 1 minute 7:18 seconds and second behind Koskela in the overall standings.
On Friday, Davis had his record in the 1,500 meters tied by Erben Wennemars of the Netherlands.
