PROVO — With a 4-inch knife and a slightly crooked right hook, a Provo man allegedly tried to take on the police department Saturday.

"Let me show you my knife, I will show you how dangerous I can be," the man said, according to an affidavit of probable cause filed in the 4th District Court.

He approached an officer to request a ride to his car. When the officer offered to call him a taxi, the man reportedly attempted to pull a lock blade knife from his pocket, according to the affidavit.

Unsuccessful, the man charged the police officer, peppering him with blows with one fist while struggling to get the knife with his other.

The man didn't stop kicking until he was bound hand and foot.

Police suspect he was drunk.

The man was booked into the Utah County Jail for investigation of assault by a prisoner, assault against a peace officer, possession of a deadly weapon with intent to assault, resisting arrest and intoxication.

Bail was set at $5,000 cash or bond.
