Duchesne High School's Jared Bruton may not be playing in this weekend's 1A state championship game, but the senior football player found out Tuesday in a school assembly that he's a Wendy's High School Heisman national finalist.
Bruton, who was Utah's state winner, was one of 32,000 athletes nationwide who were originally nominated for the award.
He will travel to New York City for an all-expense-paid trip on Dec. 7-9 to participate in the awards ceremony.
Bruton, who ranks first in his 52-student class at Duchesne, is a star athlete in football and track. He is also a student body officer and a member of nearly a dozen clubs at Duchesne. The Eagle Scout is also in the school band and choir.
