PROVO A woman arrested for investigation of passing bad checks had a chance to pay the money back and get things settled, but she didn't and is now back in the Utah County Jail facing more allegations.
The 21-year-old Orem woman's trouble started in August when she allegedly passed three checks at a Provo Ream's grocery store for $372, $742 and $744, according to an affidavit of probable cause filed in 4th District Court.
The account was valid, there just wasn't enough money to cover the checks.
Police didn't find the woman until she was arrested in September for retail theft.
When a Provo officer visited the jail on Sept. 19, the woman allegedly admitted she had signed the checks and taken the food knowing there wasn't enough money in her account.
However, she told the officer she could cover the checks when she got out of jail and was supposed to contact the officer later to set up the payments, according to the affidavit.
She never made good on those promises to pay, and when she was arrested again Halloween night for allegations of theft, the Provo officer asked the Utah County Attorney's Office to consider another charge for failing to pay back the money to Ream's.
The woman is in jail on $5,000 cash or bond bail.
