WRESTLING: Utah Valley wrestling coach Greg Williams has announced the hiring of assistant Justin Ruiz to his staff. Ruiz is a highly decorated wrestler from Taylorsville who brings with him experience and name recognition. Ruiz and Williams have worked together before, with Ruiz serving as one of the head coach's wrestling pupils at the club level during high school. Ruiz is a member of the United States Greco-Roman team that won the 2007 World Championship.
WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: Sandy Marvin sparked a 16-1 run early in the second half as Utah Valley rolled to an 85-59 win over Eastern Oregon in women's basketball exhibition action on Friday night in Orem. The Wolverines had a 44-42 lead with 14:59 remaining when Julie McMurray hit a 3-pointer followed by two Marvin jumpers to start the run. After an Eastern Oregon free-throw, Marvin scored four more points and Rebekah Peterson connected on a 3-pointer followed by another Marvin bucket with 11:25 left in the game to put UV up 60-43. Marvin led four Wolverines in double figures with 20 points. Robyn Fairbanks had 17 points, eight rebounds and two blocks while McMurray had 14 points, seven rebounds and four steals. Lauren Smith came off the bench to score 10 points in 10 minutes.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: Utah opens its two-game exhibition season this afternoon in the Huntsman Center. The Utes face Western Montana at 3 p.m. On Tuesday, they'll host Fort Lewis. Utah's season opener is Nov. 15 at home against UC Irvine.

SOCCER: After clinching a berth in the Western Athletic Conference tournament, Utah State will look to build on that standing as the Aggies host their final home match today against Louisiana Tech. The match is set to begin at 1 p.m. and will be held at the Chuck and Gloria Bell Soccer Field. The Aggies will honor their three seniors: forward Dana Peart and midfielders Abby Hunt and Shannon Ross, who will be playing in their final home match.

VOLLEYBALL: No. 1 Salt Lake Community College (40-1) will take on Arizona Western CC (23-7) today at the Lifetime Activities Center at Redwood Campus. SLCC's first-ever athletic team to attain a national No. 1 ranking looks to advance to the NJCAA national championship game for the fourth time in coach Shay Goulding's five-year tenure with the program.
