Salt Lake City police say an argument over a drug debt led to the shooting of a man in a parking lot Thursday.
Two people have been arrested in connection with the confrontation near 800 South and 900 East.
About 1 p.m. Thursday, two groups of people in separate cars met in the parking lot. A 27-year-old woman, known by police as the leader of a drug distribution ring, believed the two men in the other car were responsible for stealing meth from her, said Salt Lake City police detective Jeff Bedard.
The woman ordered the men into her car, but, fearing for their safety, they said no, according to Bedard. One man then took out a pair of nunchucks and hit her car with them.
The woman responded by having a 22-year-old man in her car hand her a gun. She fired twice. One of the bullets went through the windshield of the other vehicle, striking a man in the backseat who was trying to shield himself, in the hand, Bedard said.
Police were called about an hour later to a house near 700 East and 3400 South, where they found the two victims.
The woman and the man were later found by police and booked into the Salt Lake County Jail for investigation of attempted homicide.
