LAYTON The Wild Bird Center will welcome Canine Companions for Independence representatives at its Layton store, 1860 N. 1000 West, Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Canine Companions for Independence is a nonprofit organization that enhances the lives of people with disabilities by providing highly trained assistance dogs and ongoing support to ensure quality partnerships.
Visitors can learn more about CCI's services and meet volunteer puppy raisers and their puppies ranging in age from 6 to 16 months. Graduates of CCI's program will also be available with their assistance dogs to answer questions and give demonstrations of the dogs' abilities.
Canine Companions for Independence helps individuals with disabilities in a variety of ways, including retrieving dropped items, turning light switches on and off, opening doors and alerting hearing-impaired owners to doorbells, smoke alarms and cell phones. Program information will be available for those interested in becoming a puppy raiser or a program participant.
