From Deseret News archives:
Board members' funds fight split
Jordan officials striving to keep the district intact
But the Friends of Jordan School District's PAC report appears incomplete. It shows $1,450 in donations, and $2,481 in expenditures.
Salt Lake County Chief Deputy Clerk Jason Yocom says the group needs to disclose where the additional expenditures came from. County ordinance gives his office a few days to contact the group and give them an opportunity to file an amended report.
Friends of Jordan School District spokeswoman Betty Shaw Wednesday morning directed Deseret Morning News requests for information to the county clerk's office.
The biggest single donor to the PAC is Jordan Credit Union, which gave $500. After that is $150 from Jordan Board of Education member Ellen Wallace. Another $100 came from board president J. Dale Christensen and his wife, Linda Christensen; $50 came from board member Peggy Jo Kennett, and $100 came from district spokeswoman Melinda Colton and her husband, Kim Colton.
Aggregate donations, or those under $50 per person, totaled $400. County ordinance does not require groups to report names of those giving smaller donations.
Horiuchi is one of three board members opposing the school board's stand against a school district split.
Voters in West Jordan, Sandy, Draper, Alta, Midvale and Cottonwood Heights on Tuesday will decide whether to secede from Jordan District.
