3A State Tournament quarterfinal game

Parry's Power Guide: Cedar by 4

All-time series: 1-1.

Last meeting: 2003 first round, Cedar won 20-6

One breezed through its opening round playoff game, while the other had to fight and scratch to simply remain alive. However, expect an electric atmosphere inside Cedar High's stadium when the Redmen host Judge in the quarterfinal round of the 3A tournament this Friday.

Cedar, which seems to be peaking at the right time, comfortably dispatched North Sanpete last week to get to this point. Conversely, Judge jumped out to a big lead over Morgan in its first-round contest but had to survive a furious late rally before winning in overtime, 34-33.

Both teams feature run-oriented offenses and have quarterbacks that can make you pay through the air if you're not careful.

Offensively, Judge's rushing attack has been predicated around four guys. Tyson Moll (627 yards, 11 TDs), Lewis Walker (531 yards, six TDs), QB Joe Pond (317 yards, one TD) and Bruce Garlinghouse (309 yards, seven TDs) have posed serious problems on the ground and must be accounted for.

The same goes for Cedar quarterback Logan Obering, who has rushed for 929 yards in the Redmen's option attack. He has accounted for 21 TDs this fall.

Whether Judge's defense, which has put up big numbers, can keep tabs on Obering could go a long way in determining who reaches next week's semifinals.
