• Last week, Weber County sheriff's deputies said 16-year-old murder and robbery suspect Hector Antonio Lopez managed to escape from the 2nd District Courthouse by bolting from a transport vehicle and slipping under a closing garage door. He was recaptured a couple of blocks away, and deputies said Lopez had smuggled a handcuff key on him.

• In September, convicted killers Danny Gallegos and Juan Diaz-Arevalo escaped from the medium-security Daggett County Jail. They were captured six days later after tying up a 79-year-old man, stealing his SUV and leading police on a chase that ended in Rock Springs, Wyo.

• In August, Garfield County sheriff's deputies said convicted killer Tam Nguyen escaped from the county jail by hiding in a school bus that was being washed. He was arrested hours later after leading police on a chase into Kane County.

• In June, police said white supremacist gang member Curtis Allgier killed corrections officer Stephen Anderson, 60, during an escape from a University of Utah medical clinic. Allgier was captured after a wild chase across the Salt Lake Valley that ended with a confrontation inside an Arby's restaurant.
