The Stand Down 2007 for Homeless Veterans is set for Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., at the George E. Wahlen Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center, 500 Foothill Drive, Salt Lake City.
The VA considers annual Stand Down events as an effective tool in reaching out to homeless veterans, letting them know about services and benefits available to them. During the event, homeless veterans are invited to obtain health screenings, benefits counseling, identification cards, food, clothing and access to long-term treatment.
Volunteers with Hill Air Force Base, The American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and Disabled American Veterans will be at the Stand Down to provide support to homeless vets. Last year's Stand Down drew over 220 homeless veterans.
