Manti (7-3, 3-2) at Grand (5-4, 3-2)
2A State Tournament quarterfinal
Friday, 5 p.m.
Parry's Power Guide: Manti by 4
All-time series: Grand leads 13-9.
Two of the premier players in 2A will be on display in this quarterfinal match-up.
For Manti, which beat Beaver 38-8 in last week's 2A first round, David Hugentobler is at times unstoppable. He's rushed for over 100 yards in nearly every game this year, and leads his team with 19 total TDs.
On the other side of the ball, Grand quarterback Gordon Garrett is wicked versatile. He's rushed for over 1,000 yards this year while passing for nearly 1,000 yards as well. He's a big reason why the Red Devils finished in a three-way tie for second in the South Region, and a coin flip is why they received last week's first-round bye.
This game may have star power on the field, but in terms of overall quality this game pales in comparison to the other three 2A quarterfinals. The combined record of the favorites in the other three games is 27-1, whereas the favorite in this game already has three losses.
One of these teams, however, is on the verge of crashing the semifinal party this Friday.
