AAA of Utah is sponsoring an essay contest with a $1,000 top prize for Utah students who write about responsible driving and what their responsibilities are as a driver and a passenger in a vehicle.
The essays are due Nov. 9, and the winner will be announced in mid-December. Students should use research and examples of teen crashes from news reports when crafting their essays, AAA said. The contest is open to students ages 15 to 17.
The essay is in honor of Katelyn M. Gabbitas, 16, who died in a car crash while driving with someone who was speeding, according to AAA. Gabbitas' family will help select the winner of the contest.
To obtain an entry form for the contest, call 801-238-1265. Essays should be mailed to the following address: Rolayne Fairclough, AAA Utah, 560 E. 500 South, Salt Lake City, UT 84102.
