The privately held company was founded in early 2001 and produces vinegars, syrups, dressings, sauces, marinades, dessert toppings and drink mixers and has committed to begin production of single-serving beverages. Its products are under the company brand and private labels.
The company said it will begin hiring next spring and production will begin in the summer. It said that between 30 and 40 people will be employed in 2008 and the figure would grow to nearly 100.
The state incentive is in the form of an Industrial Assistance Fund grant to help the company offset labor and real estate costs. Half of the amount will be provided at the start of production and half upon the creation of 100 jobs. The jobs must pay at least 25 percent above the Weber County median, but board documents indicate the average pay will be $34,453 average, which is 40 percent above the county median. Business Depot Ogden and the city of Ogden have put together incentives of up to $1.5 million.
Jerry Oldroyd, chairman of the board's incentives committee, said the Ogden facility would help Southern Classic become a national company.
