U.S. Supreme Court's Roberts to speak at BYU

PROVO — The Chief Justice of the United States John G. Roberts Jr. is coming to Brigham Young University next week.

Roberts will give a speech at the school Oct. 23 during the weekly forum assembly, followed by a question-and-answer session with students.

"We're thrilled to have him," university spokeswoman Carri Jenkins said.

Roberts was confirmed as the court's chief Sept. 25, 2005. At age 50, he was the youngest appointee since John Marshall took the bench in 1801.

A graduate of Harvard Law School, he was a clerk for the Second Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals and for the Supreme Court before being hired by the office of the U.S. Attorney General. He later was the deputy solicitor general and worked in private practice before being nominated to the bench for the District of Columbia's Court of Appeals in 2003.
