MILES DAVIS, "Evolution of the Groove" (Columbia/Legacy) ****

This is a collection of fun and funky "updated" Miles Davis tunes.

Bringing in guest artist Carlos Santana and others, this disc remixes previously recorded material, blending in rap, hip-hop, rock and other influences.

It's fresh, fun, a little edgy and very creative. The title, "Evolution of the Groove," probably explains it best, as it "evolves" the music into what people are doing today.

Would Davis approve? Probably.

The biggest drawback to this album is how short it is — only about 13 minutes of music. But those 13 minutes are worth listening to again and again.
