SOCCER: The BYU women's soccer team (11-2-2, 1-2-0) fell 2-0 Thursday to San Diego State (7-6-2, 2-1-0). It was the first time since 2004 that the Cougars have lost back-to-back games. The Cougars outshot the Aztecs 16-7.
VOLLEYBALL: The BYU women fell 27-30, 29-31, 28-30 at No. 21 Colorado State Thursday. The loss drops BYU to 13-6 overall and 5-4 in the MWC while the Rams improvÜe to 13-5 and 8-1.
TENNIS: With wins Thursday, both Chie Hayasaka and Elizaveta Ezhova advanced to the singles round of 32 today in Tulsa, Okla. In doubles action, veteran Anastasia Surkova found early success with her partner Elle Carney as they sailed to an easy 8-1 victory.
Utah Valley
SOCCER: Utah Valley return home today to finish United Soccer Conference play as the Wolverines host NJIT today and Delaware State on Saturday. Kickoff for both games will be at 3 p.m.
Utah State
VOLLEYBALL: Amanda Nielson tied a school record with 24 kills to lead Utah State to a three-game wiin (30-24, 30-25, 30-23) against Idaho Thursday night. Utah State snapped a two-match losing streak and improved to10-10 on the season and 7-4 in Western Athletic Conference play. Idaho fell to 9-11 overall and 5-4 in the WAC.
TENNIS: Utah State's men's tennis team played well in doubles action at ITA Regionals in Las Vegas, Nevada on Thursday. Seniors Mike Banks and Jonas Tyden beat Portland State's Tanner Svoboda and Alex VanDershelden, 8-5, in the round of 64. Senior Fernando Gallegos and sophomore Alex Thatcher beat Brigham Young's Tyler Clonts and A.J. Young, 8-4, while teammates freshman Jakob Asplund and sophomore Oscar Ericsson fell to New Mexico's Miles Bugby and Derek Lynch, 8-6.
Weber State
SOCCER:Weber State pulled itself back into the thick of the Big Sky race on Thursday as the Wildcats downed Northern Colorado 1-0 in Ogden. Natalie Blaylock had the goal for Weber (5-6-2 overall; 1-1-1 Big Sky).
Westminster
VOLLEYBALL: The Westminster Griffins swept Dixie State College in a non-conference match at Behnken Field House on Wednesday, improving the Griffins' record to 16-5 with the 30-21, 30-28, 30-26 victory. The Griffins were led by senior Angie Johnson with 14 kills. Senior libero Bree Riet added 18 digs and Ali Culp added 10 digs and seven kills. Freshman Ericka Evans recorded a career-high nine kills and added two blocks.
