Utah Valley preps of the week

Kaitlyn Thomas

Orem Tigers

Sport: Soccer

Class: Senior

Position: Midfielder

The numbers: Thomas is one of many multi-sports stars at Orem. She might have had her biggest game yet last week when she led the Tigers to a first-round win over Mountain Crest. Thomas scored all four of Orem's goals. In the Tigers' upset win on the road at Dixie in round two, she assisted both goals with corner kicks — one of her specialties. Thomas is deadly on set pieces (corner kicks, free kicks and penalty kicks) and is the one the Tigers turn to whenever they need a goal. She leads the Tigers in scoring and will likely play for Utah Valley State College next season.

Josue Meza

Pleasant Grove Vikings

Sport: Football

Class: Junior

Position: Place kicker

The numbers: Field goals have been a huge part of Pleasant Grove's success the past two season. When the Vikings lost Mark Kennington to graduation, he left some pretty big shoes to fill. Meza has filled in more than adequately. The Vikings have won two Region 4 games this season by three points, and in each of those games Meza had a field goal. The biggest was last week's 37-yarder with 26 seconds remaining to beat Spanish Fork 23-20. Meza also had field goals of 39 yards and 33 yards in the game. For the season, he has kicked eight FGs and is 21 of 24 on extra-points.
