Tennis

UTAH TEAM PREVAILS: A team from Salt Lake City, representing the USTA Intermountain Section, captured the title at the 2007 USTA Junior Team Tennis 14 & Under Advanced National Championships held in Tucson, Ariz. The championships brought together the top 30 recreational teams from throughout the country, and representing all 17 USTA sections. The Salt Lake City team defeated a team from Charlotte, N.C., in the championships. Team members include Keaton Cullimore, McKenzie Davis, Hillary Hays, John Pearce, Matthew Pearce, Kallie Sperry and Matt Sweet and is coached by Paul Davis.

Volleyball

CRUMP COMMITS: Corinne Crump, a senior at Alta High, has verbally committed to play volleyball for the University of Utah next fall. Crump, a 5-foot-8 libero, is a four-year letter-winner for the Hawks.

Golf

UGA AWARD: Parley Petersen, the general manager at Riverside Country Club, will receive the UGA Gold Club Award for his half century of service to Utah golf. The award will be presented Oct. 24 at the UGA Annual Meeting at Hidden Valley Country Club.

"Parley has served Utah golf with a special style and grace that endears him to his fellow golfers and the UGA is proud to present him with our highest award," said Linda Olsen, president of the Utah Golf Association.

The dinner meeting is open to the public, and friends of Peterson may purchase dinner seats at $25 per person by calling the UGA office at 563-0400

Jiu-Jitsu

CHAMPION UTAHN: The U.S. National jiu-jitsu black belt champion is a Utahn. Mickey Won Choi won the championship on Sept. 30 in Los Angeles. Choi, a master at Won Choi Teakwondo and Jiu-Jitsu academic center in Orem, has qualified for the world championship in Brazil next summer.
