PROVO Elder Joe J. Christensen, general authority emeritus for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, will be the keynote speaker at Brigham Young University's 36th annual Sidney B. Sperry Symposium on the Scriptures Friday and Saturday, Oct. 26 and 27.
This year's symposium is titled "Living the Book of Mormon: Abiding by its Precepts." Elder Christensen will deliver the keynote address, "Abiding by its Precepts," at 6:30 p.m. on Friday in the Joseph Smith Building Auditorium. After the keynote address, lectures will continue in the JSB Auditorium and in the nearby Thomas L. Martin Building. Five concurrent sessions will be available each hour between 7:30 and 9:30 p.m.
On Saturday, five concurrent sessions will begin at 9 a.m., with more sessions at 10 and 11 a.m. in the JSB Auditorium and the Martin Building. Presenters include faculty from BYU and BYU-Hawaii as well as other church scholars. The closing session will feature Robert L. Millet, former dean of religious education at BYU. His topic will be "The Most Correct Book: Joseph Smith's Appraisal of the Book of Mormon." Sponsored by BYU Religious Education and the Church Educational System, the general objectives of the symposium are to increase gospel knowledge and strengthen individual testimonies.
