KEY MATCHUP

UTAH DEFENSE vs. KEVIN O'CONNELL: The Utes sacked Louisville quarterback Brian

Brohm three times in last week's win. Today they face an SDSU line that allowed O'Connell, a senior quarterback, to get sacked seven times last Saturday at Colorado State.

THE STAKES

For San Diego State ... The Aztecs are seeking a 2-0 start in MWC play — a big-time beginning for a team picked to finish eighth in the league's preseason poll.

For Utah ... The Utes are seeking a three-game winning streak. A victory would also put them above the .500 mark for the first time this season and give them a much-needed league win.

THE TRENDS

For San Diego State ... The Aztecs snapped a nine-game road losing streak last week at Colorado State. The 24-20 win over the Rams in Fort Collins was their first away from home since Nov. 12, 2005.

For Utah ... The Utes have put together back-to-back victories. A third would indicate consistency — something the injury-riddled program would appreciate in a season-ending stretch of league games.

THE EDGE

San Diego State will win if ... the Aztecs can hang around long enough. It worked last week in Fort Collins. They have the athleticism to make things happen if the game goes down to the wire.

Utah will win if ... the Utes can repeat their performance in Louisville — specifically, get an early lead and keep it. Utah can ill afford to come out flat, especially with an 0-2 record in conference play.
