• Winner: Lindsay Lohan's decision to stay in Utah (she left rehab here recently) is a good thing not because she is a celebrity, but because it says a lot about this state. Lohan told "OK!" magazine she wants to surround herself "with good people who have their hearts and their minds in the right places." Sounds like a great new state motto.
• Loser: Enrollment is declining in more than half the state's colleges and universities, according to a report released last week. Experts say this is a natural consequence of a strong economy. People are lured away from the classroom by jobs and opportunities to make money.
But Commissioner of Higher Education Rich Kendell probably said it best when he reminded students that college is "an investment in their future." That investment pays off in many more ways than a good paycheck.
