A conservative nature, political naivete and an aversion to challenging authority are what inhibit most Latter-day Saints from protesting the war in Iraq, not a sense of patriotism. A true patriot speaks out against an oppressive and miscreant government because he does love his country.
Had the American colonists subscribed to Brian Birch's twisted definition of patriotism (Oct. 7), we would still be subjects of the British crown.
